Building Healthy Habits Instead of Resolutions in 2025

Building Healthy Habits Instead of Resolutions in 2025

New Year's resolutions are a tradition for many. They offer a fresh start and a chance to improve our lives. But how many of us actually stick to these resolutions? The reality is, not many.

And many won’t even set resolutions at all. But with the start of a new year, why not step into it with a fresh start? Take advantage of the “new year, new me” mentality and focus on at least one thing you want to change or work on.

But let’s change the focus on building good habits, rather than setting resolutions. A resolution is the action of solving a problem. It sets a sort of negative foundation—you have a problem that needs fixing. And while that may be accurate, there’s a better way to frame it. Let go of the “I’m not going to do _____” or “I’m going to stop ____” notions, and instead tell yourself, ‘I’m going to start (insert good habit here).”

This article will guide you on setting realistic and achievable health and fitness goals. From the importance of exercise in 2025 to creating healthy habits that are sustainable, discover tips on how to make this year your best yet.

Plus, I’ll share with you the 5 C’s to fitness success! So whether you’re a seasoned resolution-maker or not, get prepared to be better than you were last year.

Understanding New Year's Resolutions

Let’s take a closer look at New Year's resolutions— or the promises we make to improve aspects of our lives. They often focus on health, personal growth, or career goals. When it comes to resolutions, common themes include weight loss, fitness, and quitting bad habits.

But what’s the hype with New Year’s resolutions? Setting them can boost motivation and provide a sense of purpose. They encourage reflection and planning.

However, the challenge lies in maintaining them. Many fail due to setting unrealistic targets or lack of planning. Understanding how to set effective resolutions is crucial for success. Incorporating commitment, confidence, consistency, community, and change will set you up to crush those resolutions and avoid falling prey to quitter’s day.

What is Quitters Day?

Every year, people attempt to start strong with New Year's resolutions. Yet many give up soon after. This early quitting is so common that there’s a day named for it. So what is quitters day?

It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I was introduced to this term. It’s the infamous date when most people abandon their resolutions. Quitters Day usually falls on the second Friday of January. It's about this time when commitment wanes and many lose motivation.

This causes feelings of discouragement. Understanding this phenomenon of quitters day helps in avoiding it. By setting achievable goals and having a clear plan, resolutions can last well beyond this day.

The Role of Exercise in 2025

Although it should come as no surprise, it’s worth mentioning that exercise in 2025 is vital for physical and mental health. While fitness trends will continue to evolve, exercise in general isn’t a trending fad. It’s an essential healthy habit that has been around for several years and will remain important for years to come.

Incorporating exercise into your regular routine is essential for achieving a balanced lifestyle. Various activities cater to different preferences and needs, but if you’re looking for a new dynamic workout to make exercise in 2025 exciting, check out how Lagree stacks up against other workouts.

One of my favorite things about Lagree is that you get a full-body high-intensity, low-impact workout. Seriously, if you haven’t ever tried a class, make sure to add Lagree to your list for exercise in 2025.

Healthy Habits for a Sustainable Lifestyle

Adopting healthy habits is a must for long-term well-being. Small, consistent changes are more sustainable than drastic shifts. Focusing on building healthy habits is what you should focus on this year versus New Year’s resolutions.

Exercise isn’t the only important part of a healthy lifestyle. In fact, eating healthier ranked ahead of exercising more for New Year’s resolutions among U.S. adults in 2025

Nutrition plays a fundamental role. Eating balanced meals supports energy levels and overall health. You can workout all you want, but if you don’t support that with a healthy diet, you aren’t going to gain much traction when it comes to becoming a healthier you.

Other healthy habits to focus on are sleep and recovery. These elements help maintain physical health and mental clarity and aren't overlooked. Yes, a cup of coffee can take you a long way, but it won’t keep the doctor away.

Mindfulness and stress management techniques, like meditation, are other healthy habits to incorporate for overall wellness. And if you’re looking to improve your mental health, well don’t rule out exercise as a means to do so!

The 5 C’s to Accomplish Your New Year’s Resolutions

These 5 C’s are key to not only sticking to your New Year’s resolutions, but any goals or building good habits.

Commitment

Commitment is the first step necessary to hit any New Year’s resolution or goal you set for yourself. It’s often easier said than done. But being committed to something means you do what it takes to get there, regardless of if you “feel” like it. Commitment keeps us going when motivation wanes.

But setting realistic, achievable goals will help you stick to your commitment. Start by assessing your current lifestyle and capabilities. Know your limits and set goals within reach. Use the SMART criteria to define your objectives—specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound goals are more likely to succeed.

Remember, small steps lead to big changes. Focus on gradual improvements rather than drastic changes to hold yourself to your commitment. Progress beats perfection.

Confidence

You’re much more likely to hit a goal when you have confidence. This might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s an element to New Year’s resolutions that many forget. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you believe in yourself. Think mind over matter.

Put yourself into a positive mindset and take that first step towards your goal with an abundance of confidence. Trust that you have all that you need to succeed—you got this!

Consistency

One of my all time favorites—consistency. It’s the key to succeeding in any aspect of life really. When you combine small steps, with consistency, you are on target to hitting those goals. As long as you are consistent, you will be on the right track to building those healthy habits.

Community

When it comes to personal goals or New Year’s resolutions, you might think you can do it alone. And we’re not here to tell you that you aren’t capable of doing so. However, when you’re part of a community, you are surrounded with support and like-minded individuals to hold you accountable.

Connecting with others on similar journeys allows you to share experiences and tips. Join a local gym or if you’re in the LA area, choose a studio and come join our PPLA community!

Change

And lastly, remember to stay open-minded and be prepared for change. When it comes to building healthy habits, there’s no one fool-proof way to approach it. That’s why it’s important to stay flexible and be ready to adapt. Whether it’s changing up some steps in order to reach your goals or pivoting altogether, change to some degree is almost always inevitable.

Conclusion

Well there you have it—the 5 C’s to sticking to your New Year’s resolutions, building healthy habits, and hitting your goals in 2025. Commitment, confidence, consistency, community, and change. Oh, and let’s throw in a bonus one—celebrate! Through all of your hard work, make sure to celebrate the small wins along the way. Creating healthy habits and lasting change is no easy feat.
